CM Richey is currently performing a major electrical fit-out for Amazon’s SNJ5 facility in Jersey City, NJ. This 500,000-square-foot warehouse is being transformed into a highly automated distribution center. Over the course of the roughly ten-month project, our team is installing a new medium voltage primary electric service feeding three 4,000-amp, 480-volt switchboards, along with power, lighting, low voltage sleeves, and distribution throughout the facility, all run in aluminum EMT conduit. We are also designing and installing a complete fire alarm system for the space.
To keep the project moving efficiently, our team is prefabricating many electrical assemblies off-site at our Ronkonkoma, NY facility and shipping them for installation as needed. Temporary power is being supplied through generators and temporary gear, with our electrical feeders engineered to seamlessly intercept generator power until permanent utility service is brought online, keeping the project on schedule without interruption.
Once complete, the facility will be built for the future: roughly 60% of SNJ5 will rely on robotics for sorting and picking, supported by multiple rows of distribution and control cabinets that power the material handling equipment (MHE) and conveyor systems throughout the building.
